A Taste of Summer 2015

Video Clip to show some of the summer fun had this year.

Spring Madness 2015

The winter being short and not so treacherous this last year lead into an early spring. By start of March all the snow in Calgary had already melted and the temperatures were on the rise. For Canadians the warm temperatures means shedding a couple of layers, bar patios opening up and preparing outdoor gear whether it be camping equipment, trailers, motorbikes or whatever your hobby is for the summer.

For Suzy and myself something we missed out on last summer due to being away all the time was cycling around the city. So due to the early onset of nice ttemperatures Suzy and I purchased bikes early in the Spring and have for maximum use out of them over the last 2-3months riding pretty much everywhere including out for drinks and for out new invention the dinner crawl.

Cruising around Calgary

Now many may ask what is this dinner crawl you speak of? Well friends it is something that Suzy and I came up with in constant indecisiveness on where to go out for dinner. So the basis of the evening is similar to a pub crawl but in terms of restuarants. So we start somewhere for cocktails or drinks somewhere, then to another establishment for appies, than another for main, and then to another for desert/night cap. We have been utilising the bikes to get to and from these places over the start of spring summer.

Apart from riding around other things that have gone on was Suzy and I took a vacation in April and went to the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. Was a highly relaxing week off in paradise hanging out, beaching, playing volleyball, touring and doing adventure activities.

Along with this came drinking plenty of sugary drinks and the Dominican local drink mamahuana which is delicious and if you go should try, much like a sugary port drink.

I was also lucky enough after this wonderful week off to arrive back in Calgary for the first home games of the hockey playoffs. My team the Vancouver Canucks were playing in Calgary on the Sunday for game 3. Both teams at that stage had one a game a piece out of best of  7 series. So I decided to turn up and support my team in hat and jersey, I had been to a few games before, I expected to be outnumbered maybe 75/25 Calgary to Vancouver fans. I was clearly delirious.

C of Red.... Nuts

Showed up to an absolute army which they call the "C of Red". Lets just say the banter started the second I got out of the car and continued the whole game. It was a forgone conclusion really Calgary dominated the game and ended up winning 5-2. Mind you even winning the Calgary fans still wanted torment after the game, I have never experienced anything like it and sad to say that hockey fans at playoffs are some of the worst people I have met and seems to bring out the worst in people. Either way was a great experience and the intensity of the game was like nothing I had ever experienced.

Following days off I was surprised to find out that my sister Megs was coming over to Canada to see me and my other sister Steph. So after time in BC, Megs and Steph ventured to Alberta for a couple of nights in Calgary venturing around the city on bikes, going to the dinosaur capital of Canada a town called Drumheller which is nearby and also doing a small trek in the Rocky mountains one morning. Though a quick 3 days with them was great to catch up on the other side of the world with two of my favourite girls. The girls were also in town for the first home game of the second round play-offs hockey for Calgary so we went to the local bars and got caught up in the local hype and buzzing atmosphere. Sadly Calgary lost the game but was a great night to be a part of.
